Samsung Launches First Mobile WiMAX Convergence Device

Samsung has recently introduced a mobile WiMAX convergence device, the SPH-P9000 Deluxe MITs, which Samsung claimed to be the industry's first such model. The SPH-P9000 Deluxe MITs integrates wireless Internet access, mobile phone connection, and various multimedia features, such as MP3, video-on-demand, and camera functions. This PDA-based device runs a Microsoft Windows XP operating system and taps IEEE 802.16e mobile WiMax technology and CDMA 1x EV-DO (Code Division Multiple Access 1x Evolution-Data Optimized) to enable Internet connectivity and voice communications. The commercial launch of the SPH-P9000 Deluxe MITs in Korea is slated for February or March 2007.
